2017 Off To A Strong Start!

We were fortunate to have finished off 2016 on a strong note with that momentum carrying forward into the new year! Since our last post, we have completed a number of exciting projects in Florida, Michigan, New York, Utah and Washington D.C., as well as Bermuda and the United Kingdom.

The first project was a ground up P.F. Chang's restaurant in Daytona Beach, where we prepared an estimate for a contractor, who is a long term client. While we have extensive experience in preparing estimates on a wide variety of restaurants, this was our first P.F. Chang's. This project was a bit unusual, as it was all wood construction, instead of reinforced block like we see on most projects n Florida.

The next project was an update to a design development estimate on a new school that we prepared for a General Contractor in Michigan late last year. The revised estimate was pretty straight forward and we basically re-did the entire estimate, which was easier than comparing two sets of plans with over 300 sheets in each set!

We have done a number of estimates and quantity surveys for a custom home builder on Long Island, who is a long term client. The most recent home we worked on was a replacement home for a home destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. It is hard to believe that 4 years later, the rebuilding continues! Anyway, the estimate was pretty straight forward and the homeowner should be in the home by mid summer. We have also provided consulting services to this builder, as he ventures into the commercial market.

While we have worked in many states, we recently completed three estimates for a steel erector in the Salt Lake City area, which was our first venture into Utah. These estimates were for a public health building as well as two schools, with one of the schools being over 390,000 square feet. it is important to keep in mind that Outsourcedestimating.com provides is estimating and quantity surveying services to subcontractors and suppliers, as well as architects, builders, general contractor and owners.

Prior to starting Outsourcedestimating.com, I spent most of my career in the Washington D.C. area and it is always great to get a project in the area; especially with a long term client! We recently completed a detailed estimate and quantity survey on the alterations and renovations on a two unit row house in Northeast. These are really fun projects to estimate, as they are pretty much complete "guts", so you really need to think the build process thru as you are preparing the estimate. We have another 6 houses in the pipeline with this builder and really appreciate the ongoing work.

We have completed a number of residential and commercial projects in Bermuda over the years and recently completed estimates, quantity surveys and critical path schedules on two homes there. These projects are interesting as the plans usually are very lacking in detail and often are very large scale alterations and renovations to existing homes. Builders are really faced with a big challenge in Bermuda, as many of the owner's want to stay in the house during construction. Obviously this impacts the timeline, as well as the cost. I always wonder if the builder and the owner are on speaking terms at the end of the project!

Finally, we continue to stay busy in the United Kingdom, with two projects being completed there recently. The first was a quantity survey and estimate on a hospital expansion, including several new operating rooms. The second project was critical path scheduling services for a new client that is working on a townhouse in London, which is undergoing extensive alterations and renovations.

One thing is for certain, 2017 looks to be a great year as we are seeing activity everywhere! Let us know if we can help you on any of your projects.
